EA trekt de stekker uit vier f2p-games

Electronic Arts heeft laten weten dat ze gaan stoppen met vier free-to-play games op de pc. Vanaf 14 juli zal de stekker getrokken worden uit de servers van Battlefield Heroes, Battlefield Play4Free, FIFA World en Need for Speed World. Volgens EA is de populariteit van deze games zo ver gedaald dat het niet meer interessant is om ze te blijven ondersteunen.

Volgens Patrick Söderlund, executive vice president van EA Studios, heeft EA wel veel geleerd van deze projecten:

“These were pioneering experiences, and we’re humbled that, over the years, so many of you joined us to enjoy the games and the community. While we say farewell to these free-to-play titles in the next few months, we are always exploring new concepts and ways to bring great games to more players around the world.”

Ze laten bij EA het free-to-play concept dus nog niet helemaal los. Dat blijkt ook uit het feit dat de free-to-play game Star Wars: The Old Republic wel ondersteuning zal blijven krijgen.
