Screen Gems, de studio achter de Resident Evil-films, heeft de rechten op The Last of Us in handen gekregen. De PlayStation 3-titel zal naar het grote scherm gebracht worden. Eén van de producenten is Sam Raimi, bekend van The Evil Dead en Spider-Man. De screenplay zal geschreven worden door Neil Druckmann, de Creative Director van het spel. Hij zal met Raimi de film produceren, alsook met Naughty Dog presidenten Evan Wells, Christophe Balestra en Game Director Bruce Straley. Wells zei het volgende:
